A fairy tale of 19th century St. Petersburg. After Aloysha, a boarding school boy has saved the life of a little black hen, the hen appears to the boy long after dark and leads him to a country under the earth, where the boy is given one wish. Alpysha wishes to know all his lessons without effort, and that wish is granted, but it comes with strict rules and unexpected and unhappy consequences.
